Design Reveal: All aflutter Room Girl -

This was a unique project for me because my client wanted a big girl room to her daughter two years ago. The idea was to create a fun play space for parents to cuddle with their toddler increasingly now, what would become of her big girl bed.

The custom bed is built with large drawers below and has the ability to be expanded into a bed if necessary for the tween years.

style of their home is contemporary, but we wanted to make softer and more feminine room. We lined the high walls with Birdcage Walk Nina Campbell and made a curvy custom headboard for the meridian. The dresser is a timeless piece of Bungalow 5 which is so versatile that it could work in almost every room of the house. The nursery is the classic by Egg, but it was tempered and painted pink custom with small floral details.

The silhouettes on the pillows were added after the fact. My client already had pillows of their previous home, so we just had some thought silhouettes made from a photo of his daughter and sewn on.

Design Reveal: Update Nursery -

One of my favorite projects to an update of the nursery. A longtime friend and client of mine called me to refresh and "grow-up" nursery of his son Dylan. Graduated from a crib to a bed can be one of the best ways to integrate new ideas and colors. My client wanted to keep the scheme of soft color that she loved soft blue, white and sage.

Boy's Blue and Green Toddler Room

to a certain audacity, we added new . awnings in a classical sea fresh and childlike blue band We used a new deeper blue paint our low-VOC paint line called whisper I love that color;. it is the perfect blue, soothing with enough color to add a room to the punch. for Dylan, we needed a new bed, we've created in our studio. We mixed and matched our bedding collection Forest whisper and some solid to balance the color.

Since my client had already invested in a dresser which would grow with the child, we did not need to buy any other furniture. We added some pillow upholstered chair in the room and called to do.

Boy's Blue and Green Toddler Room

As a mother of four children, I have learned through the years to add and subtract from my children's rooms. I believe in looking forward when buying the "big" items, such as changing tables, dressers, gliders and more. Find ways to update and integrate the old with the new brands for smooth transitions.

a palette of all white color is not as scary as it sounds because white is actually the one of the easiest colors to take care of. With canvas or cotton duck slipcovers on sofas and a simple white bedding, you can easily wash and go.

Tell us about your design process. Did you start with a central element or an idea that served as your inspiration?
The dresser, glider and wall color of any postponement of the nursery my son. I really wanted to keep the main components of gender neutral furniture. The first thing I did bring some girliness the decor was to add silver star stickers. I decided to stay with gray and silver tones, but stopped the color palette to be too serious incorporating soft pink accessories, knitted dolls and toys. Since the dresser is so dark and the room is quite small, it was logical to go with, maple sofa unfinished light color for Olivia beds to brighten up the space a little. The horrible beige carpet remains, but the beautiful scalloped mats The Land of Nod draws attention away from him and pulls the room together

Modern and Feminine Toddler Room Dresser. | Bookends | Cherry Blossom Moccasins | Swan Print | Print Hanger

What was the most important thing that you wanted to achieve when creating this space?
I wanted a space that was beautiful and included a feminine touch without being cloying. But above all, I wanted a room Olivia to be secure and free of adhesives and harmful chemicals that are often found in furniture and children's toys. We were a little scared on its balance sheet a year when she had a false positive on the main screen. It is what has made every movement, really. It sparked my interest in creating baby shoes free of chemicals, and it got me thinking more seriously about toxins in our everyday lives

Play Canopy Monkey Print. | Lamb Print | Play Canopy

Toddler Reading Nook Glider | Knit Rabbit

Modern and Feminine Toddler Room Dress | Penny loafers

Now that accent walls have dried and the bedding is carefully hidden, what is your favorite thing in the room?
I love Kalon sofa bed Olivia. It is a handmade work of art, made from the purest sustainable materials. It is so rare for a crib to convert elegantly. Once it exceeds it, we pass on to my sister to convert it into a cradle

Modern and Feminine Toddler Room Mirror. | DIY mobile cover

Feminine Toddler Bedding Coral Blanket (similar) | Blanket Pointelle | Mermaid Doll

Have you unexpected obstacles during the creation of this piece? How did you overcome or turn to your advantage?
The room is too small even for a double size. There is one corner, we could have used, but it would have meant to cover the damper. Every other wall is too short or a door opening. So I had to think really hard about buying a crib when we were not sure if we had more children. But it is my favorite part of the room, and it will get used again after Olivia exceeds the (hopefully we've been there).

What do you like most about the design process?
I liked to support other handmade and independent stores. I got to incorporate elements in the room Olivia brand I have long admired from afar. And I really liked the design for a little girl it's so much fun

Quirky Necklace Hanger Hanger Girl! | Pearl Necklace

Modern and Feminine Toddler Room Decor Sheepskin Rug | rabbit | Laundress Doll

If you were to remove a key to the room, what would you separate? If you could add another element to the room, what would be your first choice?
The convenient, for sure. I think the need for changing station in the nursery is overstated. I always changed my children on a changing mat on the floor. I prefer to have room for a tablet now that we have such an extensive collection of books. If you go with a convenient, I will seek one with drawers only (at least 10 "deep) and not bother with one that cabinet doors.

Toddler Room Bookshelves Dreamer | Imaginary Fred | Flora and the Flamingo |? Flower Pillow

Do you have any words of advice for other designers and parents
buy again. Try to buy furniture that will grow with your child. Every time I compromised on quality, I regret it. My advice is, if you can buy something that is practical and solidly built, but more expensive, it might be better than buying questionable quality furniture for every stage of growth. I would also avoid falling into the trap of buying every piece of furniture carry a line design do not be afraid to mix and match.

Sweet but sophisticated: Tween girls -

There is a time in the life of every girl when they no longer want dolls and tea parties, but they are not entirely made ready for Facebook and iTunes. It is the interpolation stage where they begin to develop their own sense of style. I was looking for some great shots inspired some sweet yet sophisticated rooms that your tween will love and now when she is a teenager. I also included some tips for parents to help make the process fun and stress-free ...

1. Include it in all decisions. You have long lost the privilege that you had when you make his childhood bedroom in infancy. Now she wants a say in the colors and decor. Ask what color palette excites him and bring him some choice of paint and the carpet sample.

2. Mix it up . Tweens are all about variety, so do not create a uniform scenario. Having a mix of modern and traditional, classy and soft, old and new.

3. Stir sense of who she is. Now that your daughter gains a sense of itself, it shows off. Show her that you understand who she is and that you enjoy. For example, if she is crazy about horses find a unique way of working them into his room without making her feel as if she lives in a stable. Maybe some old ancient equestrian framed posters above his desk or a special throw pillow as an accent to her bed

4. Whether the trader is a bonding experience. Now that your tween is probably in his friends and less in cuddling with mom, leave the room redecoration is a chance to bond. Take time to talk about how they want the room to look and feel and have fun planning your missions to meet its design goals.

5. Do not forget the feeling . It can not be Picasso, but I'm sure every girl has artistic or creative abilities. Encourage her to really make his room by paying a portion of his own creativity to the space. Whether his own small painting, even poetry you box or a photo collage, it is assembled, try to teach him to say, to publish a special room, he needs to feel unique hers.
