And just when I'm convinced is the modern way to go, I fall in love with vintage all over again! Children's room designer budding Carmen Raynor has a knack for taking the sweet innocence of the 50s and 60s and the creation of children's rooms out of time. Carmen recently launched its interior design company based in Sydney, Retro Rooms - for modern children! Here is an overview of the cowboy room of his son with a vintage touch ...

what was the inspiration for the room
When I think back to my childhood in the 70s, I remember imaging cowboy on so many things belonging to my younger brothers - and luckily my son love too! When I saw the Cath Kidston duvet cover I knew I had found the room that the room was going to turn around. I chose the red and turquoise from the fabric and had lockers and shelves painted to match. The artwork is a mix of original paintings and old posters of the 1950s constantly trying ebay for toys and vintage cowboy. Fortunately, there is enough storage in the room to hide all the unsightly modern toys!
What best describes your decorating style?
eclectic, with a vintage touch.
Please share with us paint colors, stores and suppliers.
The color of the main wall is Dulux Plaster and shelves and racks are painted Dulux Hot Lips (red) and Jaded (turquoise). The duvet cover is Cath Kidston. The floor is red carpet of Freedom furniture. The poster cowboy above the bed is an old advertising 50s as displayed above the fireplace. The table above the lockers is by artist Bob Daly. The bedside table is Ikea and the Little Lighthouse lamp. The trunks toys, lockers and library were all second hand shop located.
What are your favorite items?
I like the duvet cover and lockers. I also like the original artwork-, it is something I hope Jake cherish all his life.
Jake the chamber itself is certainly a treasure! Stayed tuned for the scoop on the room of the daughter of Carmen "Paper Dolls" later this week!
