A favorite PN Nursery Grows Up

- design rooms for my children is always much more difficult than doing it for my clients for any reason. With all the latest trends on my brain, it is always difficult to choose which one I like most. When my son Doran was ready to go in his big boy bed, I hesitated a bit on what I wanted to do. You may or may not have seen his nursery revealed last few years, so here's a reminder of what the room looked before.

Eclectic Nursery with Wood Accent Wall

When I'm designing a child's room, I always try to design the space so that it can grow with the child. I held true to that with the room of my own son, so easily grown from a nursery in an eclectic toddler room they grow too fast (sigh)!

As you can see, I have kept some of the key elements in the room. The wooden wall has remained the same, and the drapery lamp and floor, but the real wow factor is the personalized cot lobed.

Custom Lofted Toddler Bed

My son loves being inside tents and forts and under the sofa cushions, so I thought a little fun loft bed would be the perfect thing for him! I found a bed similar to that on Pinterest, but it was only available for purchase in Europe so I decided to develop plans and have my carpenter make one for me. I added some of my own features, including cross bars on the window and the little door, so it would be sure to fall out of bed at night. Then I found a fun carpet that pulled everything together and jumped into some new colors that are not in his room before, refreshing and makes them feel "new."

Big Sisters, beware no girls allowed in this club! I painted the bed with my favorite color Dunn Edwards called Novelty Navy. I also attached a little IKEA book of light and a couple of books ledges inside all his books to favorite bedtime.

There is a vintage campaign chest in a natural finish on the other side of the Doran eclectic baby room, with a gallery wall which includes part of his favorite activities. The art vintage painting by number drawn all colors on this side of the room and finished the compilation of artwork.

When designing your nursery, think a few steps ahead and consider how easily a large bed will fit in the room . This will make your transition all that much smoother than your little grows in its new space. And like any mom knows, everything goes too fast!
