Small space CupcakeMAG Revamp & Giveaway! -
You can be seen in the room of this sweet girls in our current room group Month finalists. Today, we chatted with Casi Densmore-Koon, editor and founder of CupcakeMAG, for advice on how she mixed and adapted grounds and built a great design in a small space. Do not forget the departure of giveaway at the end for a chance to win a virtual design overhaul of your own!
1. How would you like to start your design process?
You must think like a blank canvas. We started with the small spaces trend in mind and wanted to make the most of a small space. We wanted to create great things, even if the space was small. We immediately knew we wanted to include the Emily in bed Raspberry Newport Cottages, and we built the color palette around it. From there, it comes alive! We sought the perfect treasures to fill the room.
2. How did you choose the color scheme?
After watching the painting collection Annette Tatum, I knew immediately that we wanted something bold and bright. We went with the orange and pink combo because he was gay, fresh and fun. Perfect for little girls!
3. The mixture of styles is a big trend right now. How do you recommend to get this look without overwhelming the space or making the cluttered?
This is huge, and I love it! It is important not to get everywhere! I suggest picking a main pattern and mixing in small amounts throughout the space. We continued to focus on the ikat print Annette Tatum bedding and built around it. Instead of ikat everywhere, we found a model as filling chevron to use for curtains and a small-scale model for the carpet. You would not do ikat over the room as it would be overwhelming, so it's important to find a good contrasting pattern. You can really make the most models work well together, as long as you mix them well and do not overdo it.
4. Best tip or trick in the design for a small space?
You have to think outside the box. We created the closet exposed so it would both fill a blank wall and create a great focal point. We took a shelf and threw down to use as a bench that can also be used for toys stores. You must find ways to make the work space for you, and just because it's small does not mean you can 't create something great!
5. What was the biggest challenge you faced with the room?
The radiator covers were the biggest challenge because they really just need to get out. However, with a lack of time we decided to do the work for them and we painted pink so they almost look like mold, but are not. It is a great way to work things just add paint!
6. Do you have a favorite room in the house?
It must be the Bed Emily Newport Cottages. This was the real inspiration behind the creation of something with great style design in a small space. To create more impact, we have a higher bed by adding a bed with Serta mattress albeit bed frame did not need one. Your little one is sure to feel like a princess! The bed really did for me. It is a beautiful piece! I also love the vintage trunk because of its multiple uses. It is a great find! And I like the look of the closet, I want a presentation in my room! It is a great way to show your pretties
